Interesting
McGee Facts
- Henry described this role as
"...probably the most interesting part I've ever had on
television..." mainly due to the excellent script
writing of Eric Chappell (The Squirrels, Only When I Laugh,
The Bounder).
- The part of Seymour was used again in
"Rising Damp - the Movie" (1980) although the part
was played by Denholm Elliott.

Rigsby (L,
Leonard Rossiter), Seymour (C, Henry McGee) and Philip (R, Don
Warrington), in the Rising Damp episode "The Perfect
Gentleman"
|
In a plot that bears a resemblance to the "Fawlty Towers"
episode "A Touch of Class", Henry plays "Seymour" an
apparently sophisticated, wealthy and business astute member of high society,
who decides to lodge in Rupert Rigsby's (Leonard Rossiter) lodgings. Rigsby is
completely in awe of his new tenant, allowing him many liberties that he would
let his more permanent lodgers to get away with. Rigsby even ends up cleaning
Seymour's shoes
Alan Moore (Richard Beckinsale) and Philip Smith (Don Warrington) are
immediately suspicious of Seymour and when Philip's wallet goes missing they
suspect Seymour. On confronting Seymour, they search him and find nothing, not
surprising since he has planted the wallet on Alan, which they discover when
they all search each other.
Rigsby's purse then goes missing. Of course Alan is suspect, but Philip
proves his friends innocence when he catches Seymour in the act of stealing
Rigsby's money belt.
